Timothy A. Schmidt
~Pianist~

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Timothy A. Schmidt began the study of music at the early age of five studying music theory at the Cleveland Institute of Music and, at the age of six, piano with Robert Flanik. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio University, a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. His teachers on piano include Joseph Howard, Richard Syracuse, George Katz, Theodore Lettvin, and Bernhard Weiser; and on harpsichord, Jane Burris, James Nicolson, Helen Keaney, and Daniel Pinkham.

A prolific recitalist, Timothy Schmidt’s concerts have taken him to three continents with extensive concerts in the United States, Mexico, Hong Kong, China, and Russia. Recent appearances have been guest Artist/Clinician for the North Dakota State Music Teachers Convention (2004) and the Montana State Music Teachers Association (2005) and as a collaborative musician with noted bass singer Daniel Smith (2006) and baritone singer Elias Mokole (2007).

The recipients of numerous awards and honors, he has performed with a number of orchestras including the Ft. Dodge Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Suburban Symphonic Winds, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Timothy Schmidt was four times named Cultural Ambassador from the State of Iowa to China and Russia by Terry E. Branstad, Governor of Iowa, and has served as a member and chair of the board of the Iowa Arts Council. He is the recipient of the Holmen Award for Professional Excellence by Waldorf College and twice received faculty study grants by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
